METU HS Ankara 2015 Team
VARROA CULA

Our Achievements
Bronze Medal
-
By the help of cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase(CAD) enzyme we successfully convert cinnamyl alcohol to cinnamyl aldehyde
-
By using Fehling experiment we observed formation of cinnamyl aldehyde in our bacteria solution
-
We designed a prototype represent a bee hive and repellent
-
We proceeded a behavioural experiment for our project. By this experiment we observed the repellent effect of cinnamylaldehyde on Varroa mite
-
We organized an open event with beekeepers. Social intergrading was our motto
-
We collaborated with Toulouse and METU Turkey iGEM Teams
-
We distributed a survey about our project and collected feedbacks
-
We designed our project according to problems of beekeepers and Academic Society
-
We integrated the basic part I742111 into two other composite parts and designed a functional part. With this circuit we get limonane as a product which repells Varroa

-
We registered for iGEM, had a great summer, and will attend the Giant Jamboree
-
We completed the Judging form and all required consent forms
-
We created and shared a Description of the team's project using the iGEM wiki, and documented the team's parts using the Registry of Standard Biological Parts
-
We will present a poster and will give a talk at the iGEM Jamboree
-
We created a page on our team wiki with clear attribution of each aspect of our project
-
We collaborated with METU Turkey and Toulouse iGEM Teams that had previously participated in the iGEM competition

Silver Medal
Gold Medal

We documented a new standard BioBrick Part or Device central to our project and submitted this part to the iGEM Registry
We documented the characterization of an existing part in the 'Main Page' section of that Part's/Device's Registry entry
Our project involves important questions beyond the bench, relating to ethics, sustainability, social justice, safety, security, and intellectual property rights. See more at human practice section
-
We expanded on our silver medal Human Practices activity by demonstrating how we have integrated the investigated issues into the design and execution of our project and demonstrated an innovative Human Practices activity that relates to our project.
-
We helped METU Turkey iGEM team characterizing their part
-
We experimentally validated that one new BioBrick Part and Device of our own design and construction works as expected and we documented the characterization of this part in the Main Page section of the Registry entry for that Part/Device
-
We demonstrated a functional prototype of our project. We showed this system working under real-world conditions that we simulated in the lab
